Welcome, my name is Elles Nijland, a freelance artist living and working in the Netherlands.

I have always been enthralled by the experience of art making itself. The feeling of my hands engaging with the materials, the state of mind you’re in during the creative process, the moments before and after mark making, and the subtle shifts in seeing the natural world around me.

My work is the accumulation of: feelings, memories, landscape, subconscious and conscious thoughts that form into colours and shapes that interact on canvas. My work is primarily driven by the way I experience the world visually, through the mental notes I keep during my day to day life. Another key part to my practice is the fact that I love outdoor photography, and landscapes and nature are a major theme that continues to bring life and vision to my work.

I’m passionate about the unique and integral impact artwork can have on a space and within our lives. I believe that art can be a fulfilling experience in the spaces in which we dwell.
